Bathroom Layout Do’s and Don’ts

Your remodeling contractor will ensure your bathroom has an easy-to-understand layout that matches your needs and preferences. Here are some basic do’s and don’ts that you should know when creating a bathroom layout.

Do’s

  • Start with the “Three-in-a-Row” Layout

The three-in-a-row layout places the sink, toilet and bathtub in the same row inside a quadrilateral bathroom. This layout gives you enough space to open the door inward and use the fixtures without hassle. Due to the layout’s simplicity, you can easily add fixtures later and create excellent lighting.

  • Avoid Large Fixtures That Aren’t Necessary

Fixtures that are disproportionate to the size of your bathroom will make the space look cramped and smaller than it actually is. Excessively large fixtures can also make it difficult to clean corners and crevices.

  • Be Mindful of Negative Space

A negative space can look good if there’s enough distance between the main features of your bathroom. This will also make it easier for you to move around and organize the space.

Don’ts

  • Don’t Forget to Choose Your Centerpiece

It can be a large freestanding tub or an antique storage cabinet. Whatever you decide as the centerpiece of your bathroom, make sure to place it in a strategic location.

  • Don’t Skimp on Fixtures and Materials

Your contractor can recommend the best fixtures and materials for your bathroom in terms of durability and aesthetics. Make sure to let your contractor know your budget so that they can provide you with options that meet your requirements. Nevertheless, remember that you shouldn’t skimp on your bathroom fixtures and materials. These parts of your bathroom should be durable and long-lasting so that you can get the best value for your money.

  • Don’t Ignore Design Suggestions

Pay attention to other people’s suggestions, especially those from the experts. It’s OK to make unconventional choices, but your selections should fit the style of your bathroom and meet your needs.
