Tub-to-Shower Conversion Tips to Keep in Mind

Converting your tub to a shower is a significant home improvement task for any homeowner to undertake. As such, it’s understandable if you want it to go as smoothly as possible. Thankfully, bathtub replacement contractors say that it is possible for your tub-to-shower conversion to go well so long as you keep a few tips in mind, such as:

Avoid Building Around a Window

When you’re converting your tub to a shower and your old tub was located near a window, be sure to tell your contractors to avoid building your new shower around said window. This is because not only can it allow water to seep into your walls through the window casing and cause mold but also because it may cause some privacy concerns in your bathroom. With that in mind, play it safe and place the shower in the area of your bathroom where there is no window.

Have Everything Inspected

Before you have your tub converted into a shower, ask your shower and bathtub installation contractors to inspect everything in your bathroom first. Have them check the existing condition of your pipes and have it replaced if necessary and ask them to repair or replace the framing and subfloor if there is evidence of mold, rot or mildew growth so you can have a better shower. Apart from that, ask them to replace your old shower valves to ones that control temperature and volume as well. That way, you’ll have an easier time adjusting the temperature and control your shower’s water flow at the same time.

Don’t Eliminate All Your Tubs

Finally, if you have more than one bathroom that has a tub around your home, don’t replace them all with a shower, especially if you plan on selling in the near future. This is because if you eliminate all your bathroom tubs, you might eliminate your home’s marketability as most potential buyers tend to look for a home with at least one bathtub.
